FAQs
1. Can I use the birth pool in a hospital setting?
Yes! Many hospitals allow hydrotherapy during labor. I recommend confirming your hospital’s policies ahead of time, but both of my rental options are suitable for home and hospital births. I’m also happy to guide you on what to ask your provider so there are no surprises.
2. When will I receive the pool?
For the drop-off option, your pool and supplies are delivered at 37 weeks, so everything is ready well before labor begins.
For full-service clients, I go on call at 37 weeks and bring and set up the pool when you’re in labor and ready to use it.
3. What do I need to provide?
Nothing beyond a standard water source and a space for the pool. I provide all essential equipment and supplies needed for setup and use. My goal is that you don’t have to think about a single detail.
4. How is the pool cleaned and kept sanitary?
Each client receives a brand new, single-use liner that creates a clean barrier between you and the pool. After use, the pool is thoroughly sanitized according to strict cleaning protocols before being prepared for the next family.
5. What happens after the birth?
With the drop-off option, you’ll be responsible for draining, cleaning, and packing up the pool using the provided instructions. Notify us within 48 hours of the birth to arrange pickup.
With the full-service option, I return after your birth to handle everything—draining, breakdown, and removal—so you can focus fully on resting and bonding with your baby.
Evidence on Waterbirth
“New research evidence on waterbirth is continuing to emerge! For birthing people, there are benefits associated with waterbirth. There is strong evidence that waterbirth is associated with a lower episiotomy rate, and that planning a waterbirth leads to higher rates of having an intact perineum. People who have waterbirths are less likely to need pain medicine for pain relief compared with people who give birth on land. Waterbirth parents also report higher levels of satisfaction with pain relief and with their experience of childbirth. Some of the benefits of waterbirth (such as decreased pain during the first stage of labor) can also be achieved from using water immersion during labor, before the birth.”
